My favourite piece of writing this past year (although it was published in 2010) is from a little known blogger. On my bulletin board, I posted a copy of this piece about ACL recovery, and I referred to it every once in a while to see if I was ready to claim my own invincibility again.
That day has finally arrived.
Unlike the blogger, I required a little more time to regain my superpowers—about 13 months. Well, maybe I’m not quite the sprinter I once was, but I’m finally doing stuff without thinking about it. Jumping? Check. Kicking? Check. Running uphill? Check. Taking risks? I didn’t think I ever would again—but check. I’m back to quality squats and deadlifts, and you already know I climbed the damn tree.
So in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for my new ACL and for everyone who made it possible: the surgeon, the surgical and hospital staff, my awesome physiotherapist, and my family, of course.
And I’m thankful for bloggers who inspire me to reach my goals.
I promise this is my last post on the subject. Here’s to never thinking about it ever again.
Happy Thanksgiving!
