The Wisdom of Eleanor Roosevelt

Today I came across a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt. Facing my fears is an integral part of my mission statement, so I hardly needed the reminder. Forcing myself to network, to make phone calls to potential clients, and to perform myriad other actions that are alien to introverts have become common practice. Except . . .

This morning I found myself standing under a tree I used to climb. That’s no metaphor—I’m talking about a literal green leafy arboreal organism. The lowest branch is several inches out of my reach, so a running jump is required to grab the branch and pull myself up. Ten months out from ACL surgery, and I’m back on the horse—er, under the tree.

I didn’t make the climb. I found myself holding back slightly on the jump. I’m still scared—scared I’ll hurt myself or my new ligament.

But I know I’m going to climb that tree soon, because I showed up. Today I showed up. And according to Woody Allen, that’s about 80% of success right there.

What scares you today, and whatcha gonna do about it?
